I had the opportunity to present a session called “Empowering Student Voice Through the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) and AI,” where we explored how artificial intelligence can support deeper thinking, creativity, and meaningful student action in the classroom.
During this session, we looked at how student-facing AI tools such as writing assistants, image generators, and adaptive platforms can be used to support cross-curricular STEAM learning while amplifying student voice. Rather than simply generating answers, AI can help students research complex issues, visualize ideas, and design solutions connected to real-world challenges.
A key focus of the session was how these technologies can be used alongside the UN Sustainable Development Goals to help students think critically about global issues, reflect on their role within their communities, and explore ways they can contribute to positive change.
We also explored the ethical considerations of using AI in education. Students need opportunities to question how AI systems work, where their information comes from, whose voices are represented (or missing), and how these technologies shape the way knowledge is created and shared. These conversations are essential for building responsible, thoughtful AI users.
Throughout the session, I shared practical classroom examples and strategies that show how AI can personalize learning, support creativity, and help students communicate their thinking in powerful ways, all while aligning with curriculum expectations and fostering equity, agency, and authentic engagement.
You can access the presentation slides below to explore the ideas, tools, and classroom applications shared during the session.
